indebt
Owing someone money
Indebt means to place someone under obligation, typically financial but sometimes moral or social.
The verb appears almost exclusively in its past participle form: indebted to the bank, indebted to my mentor for her guidance.
When you indebt yourself, you take on debt or obligation; when something indebts you to another, it creates a sense of owing them.
The financial sense is literal; the gratitude sense is figurative but equally common.
