income redistribution
Tax-funded wealth transfer
Income redistribution is the transfer of wealth from some members of society to others through taxation, government programs, or other policies.
Progressive taxes take more from higher earners; welfare programs, food assistance, and public housing direct resources toward lower earners.
The term is neutral but often appears in political debate, where critics use it to suggest unfair taking from those who earned it: Their platform is just income redistribution dressed up as fairness.
