tax code

Fiscal law compilation

A tax code is the body of laws governing taxation in a jurisdiction—the rules determining what's taxed, at what rates, and what deductions or credits apply.

In the U.S., this means the Internal Revenue Code: The new provision was buried deep in the tax code.

In British usage, a tax code is also an alphanumeric designation assigned to individual taxpayers, indicating their tax-free allowance.
