in-state tuition
Local student pricing
In-state tuition is the reduced rate that public colleges and universities charge to students who are legal residents of that state.
The logic is that state taxpayers have already contributed to the institution, so their children pay less than out-of-state students: She chose a state school to get in-state tuition.
Residency requirements typically demand living in the state for at least a year before enrollment.
