Texts with artwork
Illustrated books contain pictures, drawings, or other visual artwork alongside or in place of text.
Children's picture books are the most familiar type, where illustrations carry much of the narrative weight, but illustrated editions also exist for classics, cookbooks, and technical manuals.
The term distinguishes these from text-only publications and from graphic novels, where sequential art is the primary storytelling medium rather than an accompaniment.
