Unconscious primitive drive
Id is Freudian psychology's term for the primitive, instinctual part of the mind—the seat of desires, impulses, and urges that demand immediate satisfaction.
The id operates on the pleasure principle, seeking gratification without regard for consequences or social norms.
It contrasts with the ego (rational self) and superego (moral conscience): His id wanted the cake; his superego reminded him of his diet.
