hydrometry
Gauging water flow
Hydrometry is the measurement of water—its flow, volume, depth, or other properties.
The term applies to measuring bodies of water like rivers and lakes, as well as to determining the specific gravity of liquids.
A hydrometer is the instrument used for such measurements.
