hybrid creatures
Part one, part another
Hybrid creatures are beings composed of parts from different species—the griffin's eagle head and lion body, the mermaid's human torso and fish tail, the centaur's human upper half joined to a horse.
Mythology teems with such combinations: the sphinx, minotaur, chimera.
In fantasy and science fiction, hybrids often result from magical or genetic experimentation.
The term also applies to real crossbreeds like mules, though these lack the fantastical element.
