human depravity
Innate sinful nature
Human depravity is the moral corruption or wickedness inherent in human nature.
The phrase appears most often in theological contexts, particularly Calvinist doctrine holding that all humans are born sinful and incapable of choosing good without divine intervention: The doctrine of total human depravity holds that sin corrupts every aspect of our being.
Outside religious discourse, it describes humanity's capacity for cruelty and evil: The concentration camps revealed the depths of human depravity.
