human chains
Linked protesters standing
Human chains are lines of people standing or linking arms to pass objects along, block access to a location, or make a political statement through collective presence.
The literal chain—buckets passed hand to hand during a fire—extends to figurative ones: protesters forming a human chain around a building to prevent demolition, or across a border to symbolize solidarity.
Volunteers formed a human chain to move sandbags to the levee.
