howzat
Bowler's hopeful cry
Howzat is a cricketing exclamation, a compressed form of "how's that?" shouted by fielders to appeal to the umpire for a dismissal.
When a bowler or fielder believes a batsman is out—caught, bowled, or leg before wicket—the team appeals with this ritualized cry, and the umpire must rule.
The intensity of the appeal ranges from perfunctory to theatrical, sometimes accompanied by leaping and arm-raising.
