home confinement
Restricted to residence
Home confinement is a legal arrangement in which a person serves a sentence or awaits trial while restricted to their residence rather than being held in jail or prison.
The confined person typically wears an electronic monitoring device and may only leave home for approved purposes such as work, medical appointments, or court appearances.
The judge ordered home confinement instead of jail time.
It is also called house arrest.
