high-fired
Extreme heat treated
High-fired describes ceramics or pottery fired at very high temperatures, typically above 2200°F (1200°C).
The intense heat creates denser, more durable pieces with a glassier surface: high-fired stoneware, high-fired porcelain.
The term distinguishes these from low-fired earthenware, which remains more porous.
