hidden defects
Unseen structural problems
Hidden defects are flaws in property or goods that aren't apparent on reasonable inspection.
The term appears most often in real estate and product liability contexts, where sellers may be legally obligated to disclose known hidden defects: The inspector missed the hidden defects in the foundation.
A latent defect is the same thing in more formal legal language.
