heritage home
Designated old dwelling
A heritage home is a residential building recognized for historical, architectural, or cultural significance, typically protected by preservation laws or registry.
The designation often restricts modifications to maintain original character: They wanted to add a deck, but heritage home regulations limited what they could change.
Common in Canadian and Australian usage; Americans more often say historic home.
