helicopter skiing
Chopper-accessed backcountry descents
Helicopter skiing is a form of backcountry skiing where skiers are transported by helicopter to remote, otherwise inaccessible mountain terrain—typically steep slopes with deep, untracked powder snow.
The helicopter drops skiers at high elevations, and they ski down to a pickup point.
It's expensive and requires advanced skiing ability: We spent a week helicopter skiing in British Columbia.
Also called heli-skiing.
