hay meadows
Dried fodder sources
Hay meadows are grasslands managed for producing hay—grass cut and dried for animal feed.
Unlike pastures where livestock graze directly, hay meadows are left to grow tall before being mowed, traditionally in summer.
The term often carries connotations of traditional farming and biodiversity, as unimproved hay meadows support wildflowers and insects that intensive agriculture eliminates: The old hay meadows were full of orchids and butterflies.
