hawthorn berry
Small red pome
The hawthorn berry is the small red fruit of the hawthorn tree, a thorny shrub common in hedgerows across Europe and North America.
The berries have long been used in herbal medicine, particularly for heart conditions: hawthorn berry extract, hawthorn berry tea.
They're tart and slightly mealy, sometimes made into jellies or wines.
