haw
Ox driver's left
Haw is the fruit of the hawthorn tree—a small, reddish berry.
As a command, haw directs a draft animal to turn left (opposite of gee).
The verb haw means to hesitate or fumble in speech, almost always paired with hem: He hemmed and hawed before finally answering.
A haw is also the third eyelid in dogs and other animals.
