hate group
Prejudice-driven collective
A hate group is an organization whose central purpose is hostility toward people based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or similar characteristics.
The term carries strong condemnation and is sometimes contested—groups rarely accept the label for themselves, while opponents may apply it broadly.
The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups across the country.
