hatchways
Ship floor doors
Hatchways is the plural of hatchway—an opening in a ship's deck or a building's floor that provides access to the space below.
The term combines hatch (a covered opening) with way (a passage): The crew secured the hatchways before the storm.
Hatchways may be fitted with ladders, stairs, or simple covers depending on their purpose.
