Wheels and treads
A halftrack is a military vehicle with conventional wheels in front and continuous tracks (like a tank's) in the rear, combining a truck's maneuverability with a tank's ability to cross rough terrain.
Halftracks were widely used in World War II for transporting troops and towing artillery.
The design has largely been superseded by fully tracked armored personnel carriers.
