half hitches
Simple binding knots
Half hitches are simple knots formed by looping a rope around an object and then through itself.
A single half hitch provides minimal holding power; two half hitches—the more common configuration—create a secure fastening for tying a rope to a post, ring, or rail: She secured the boat with two half hitches around the dock cleat.
The knot tightens under load but releases easily.
