hairsprings
Timepiece regulating spirals
Hairsprings are the thin, coiled springs in mechanical watches and clocks that regulate timekeeping.
The hairspring oscillates back and forth at a precise rate, controlling the movement of the balance wheel.
Also called balance springs.
The delicacy of these components makes them symbols of precision engineering: adjusted with hairspring sensitivity.
