guv'nor
Cockney for chief
Guv'nor is British slang for a man in a position of authority—a boss, employer, or father.
It's a casual, often affectionate contraction of governor: Morning, guv'nor.
The term appears frequently in working-class speech and period dramas set in London.
Sometimes shortened further to guv.
