State of filth
Grunginess is the quality of being dirty, grimy, or unkempt.
The word applies to physical spaces—a grungy apartment, a grungy bathroom—or to a general aesthetic of deliberate shabbiness: The bar had a certain grunginess that attracted artists and musicians.
It can suggest either neglect or cultivated scruffiness.
