grot

Small rocky hollow

Grot is British slang for dirt, filth, or unpleasant rubbish: The bathroom was covered in grot.

As an adjective, grotty means dirty, shabby, or of poor quality: a grotty little flat.

Separately, grot is a literary or archaic word for grotto—a small cave or cavern, especially an artificial one in a garden.
