gross national product

National economic total

Gross national product, often abbreviated GNP, is the total monetary value of all goods and services produced by a country's residents over a specific period, typically a year, regardless of where that production takes place.

Unlike gross domestic product (GDP), which measures output within a country's borders, GNP includes income earned by citizens abroad while excluding income earned domestically by foreign residents.

The country's gross national product grew by three percent last quarter.
