grokking

Intuiting something completely

Grokking is the present participle of grok, a verb meaning to understand something so thoroughly that it becomes part of you.

The word comes from Robert Heinlein's 1961 science fiction novel *Stranger in a Strange Land*, where it's a Martian term.

Programmers and tech communities adopted it: I'm still grokking the new codebase.

To grok something goes beyond comprehension—it implies intuitive, complete understanding.
