green wave
Uninterrupted traffic flow
A green wave is a synchronized sequence of traffic lights timed so that vehicles traveling at a certain speed encounter green lights continuously along a route.
Traffic engineers design green waves to reduce stops and improve flow: Hit the green wave on Main Street and you won't touch the brakes for two miles.
The term also describes a surge of support for environmentalist or green political parties: The green wave swept through European elections.
