green-lighting
Saying yes officially
Green-lighting is giving approval to proceed, especially for a creative project.
The term comes from film and television, where studio executives green-light productions they've decided to fund: The network is green-lighting three new series this fall.
The metaphor extends to any authorization: Management is finally green-lighting the expansion.
