grease trails
Fatty residue paths
Grease trails are ancient trade routes used by Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest coast, named for the eulachon oil (fish grease) transported along them.
These paths connected coastal communities to interior regions, facilitating trade in preserved fish oil and other goods: The grease trails were highways of commerce for thousands of years.
