graveyard humor
Jokes about death
Graveyard humor is comedy that treats death, suffering, or other grim subjects with dark levity—jokes told at funerals, gallows wit, morbid observations that find absurdity in mortality.
The term overlaps with gallows humor and black comedy.
Medical professionals, soldiers, and morticians are known for developing graveyard humor as a coping mechanism: The paramedics traded graveyard humor on the way back to the station.
