grading scales

Academic scoring systems

Grading scales are systems for evaluating and ranking performance, typically in education.

They convert raw scores or subjective assessments into standardized measures—letter grades (A through F), percentages, or grade point averages.

Different institutions use different scales: The school switched from a 100-point grading scale to a pass/fail system.

Grading scales also appear in other contexts, like meat quality or coin condition.
