gold eagle
Historic American currency
A gold eagle is a ten-dollar gold coin minted in the United States from 1795 to 1933, part of a series that included the quarter eagle ($2.50), half eagle ($5), and double eagle ($20).
The term now also applies to modern American Gold Eagle bullion coins issued since 1986.
The golden eagle is a separate thing—a large North American raptor.
