go short
Sell borrowed shares
Go short is a financial term meaning to sell an asset you don't own, betting its price will fall.
You borrow shares, sell them at the current price, then hope to buy them back cheaper later—pocketing the difference.
Hedge funds went short on the housing market before the 2008 crash.
The opposite of going long.
Also called shorting or short selling.
