glowplug

Engine warming element

A glowplug is a heating element in diesel engines that warms the combustion chamber to help start the engine in cold conditions.

Unlike gasoline engines that use spark plugs, diesels rely on compression heat to ignite fuel—glowplugs provide supplemental heat when the engine block is too cold for reliable ignition.

Wait for the glowplug light to go off before cranking.
