ghost signs
Weathered wall murals
Ghost signs are old painted advertisements on building exteriors that have faded over time but remain partially visible, often decades after the businesses they promoted have closed.
These weathered murals typically advertise products, services, or companies from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when hand-painted building ads were common.
They appear most often on brick walls in urban areas, gradually revealed as neighboring structures are demolished or paint wears away.
The neighborhood walking tour pointed out several ghost signs from the 1920s.
