marquee signs
Lit venue announcements
Marquee signs are the large, often illuminated displays found above theater entrances, originally featuring removable letters to announce current shows and performers.
The format—bold text on a lit background—has become iconic for announcing attractions: Her name was up on the marquee.
The style now extends to any prominent changeable-letter signage, from vintage movie palaces to modern LED displays outside churches and businesses.
