gentling
Making more tame
Gentling is the process of making something or someone gentle, particularly taming or calming an animal through patient, non-forceful methods: The gentling of the wild horse took several weeks.
The term appears most often in horsemanship, where it describes building trust rather than breaking spirit.
By extension, gentling can describe any gradual softening or calming: a gentling of her tone.
