genome project
DNA cataloging effort
A genome project is a large-scale scientific effort to map and sequence all the genetic material of a species.
The Human Genome Project, completed in 2003, is the most famous example—it identified all human genes and their locations on chromosomes.
Such projects provide foundational data for medical research, evolutionary biology, and genetic engineering.
