gas fire

Piped indoor flames

A gas fire is a heating appliance that burns natural gas or propane to warm a room, typically installed in a fireplace or as a freestanding unit.

Common in British English, where it often refers to a decorative hearth unit designed to look like a traditional fire: We turned on the gas fire to take the chill off.

American English more often uses "gas fireplace."
