gas-guzzlers

Inefficient vehicle types

Gas-guzzlers is the plural of gas-guzzler, a vehicle with poor fuel efficiency—one that "guzzles" gasoline the way a heavy drinker guzzles alcohol.

The term emerged during the 1970s oil crisis and carries disapproval, often aimed at large SUVs and trucks: Those gas-guzzlers shouldn't get tax breaks.
