functional design
Utility shapes aesthetics
Functional design is design focused on how well something works rather than how it looks.
A functional design prioritizes usability, efficiency, and purpose over ornamentation: The kitchen's functional design puts everything within easy reach.
The term appears in architecture, product development, and software engineering, where meeting user needs takes precedence over aesthetic considerations.
