frenums
Oral membrane anchors
Frenums is the plural of frenum, a small fold of tissue that restricts the movement of an organ or body part.
The most familiar are in the mouth: the lingual frenum connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth, while labial frenums attach the lips to the gums.
The dentist said his frenums were unusually tight.
Also spelled frenula (from the Latin diminutive frenulum).
