away message
"Not here" notification
An away message is an automated reply indicating someone is unavailable, typically set on email or instant messaging services.
The term emerged with early chat programs like AIM, where users would craft personalized messages explaining their absence: Her away message said she was at the movies.
Away messages range from purely functional to elaborately expressive, sometimes serving as a form of passive communication or status update.
