frame houses

Wood-skeleton homes

Frame houses are residential buildings constructed with a wooden skeletal framework, typically covered with siding, shingles, or clapboard.

This construction method, dominant in North American housing since colonial times, uses vertical studs and horizontal beams to create the structure's shape before exterior and interior walls are added.

The term distinguishes these from brick, stone, or concrete construction.

Most of the older homes in the neighborhood are frame houses.
