forestation

Growing new woodlands

Forestation is the establishment of forest on land that previously had none, whether through planting trees or allowing natural regrowth.

The term covers both afforestation (creating forest where none existed historically) and reforestation (restoring forest to cleared land).

The government's forestation program aimed to plant a million acres by 2030.
