auction sale
Competitive bidding event
An auction sale is a public sale where goods or property are sold to the highest bidder.
The term is slightly redundant—auctions are sales by definition—but appears in legal and commercial contexts for emphasis or formality: The estate will be liquidated through auction sale.
Often shortened to simply auction.
