folk legends
Passed-down community stories
Folk legends are traditional stories passed down through generations, typically rooted in a particular place or culture and often featuring historical figures, supernatural elements, or explanations of local landmarks.
Unlike myths, legends claim a connection to real events or people, though embellished over time: Paul Bunyan is an American folk legend, folk legends of haunted bridges.
The term also describes the famous figures within such traditions.
